Executive Compensation Attorney
Employers, executives and high-net-worth individuals across the country turn to Austin Light for strategic solutions in executive compensation, estate planning and complex tax strategy. His rare blend of experience across these disciplines enables him to structure compensation and equity arrangements that are both tax-efficient and aligned with clients’ long-term objectives.
When reviewing agreements, Austin cuts through complexity to reveal what truly matters for his clients — pinpointing negotiation leverage, uncovering hidden opportunities and translating tax implications into strategic advantages.
Austin represents individual executives, management teams, law firms, startup founders and private equity sponsors. He has deep experience negotiating high-stakes employment agreements, structuring equity incentive plans, advising on grants, guiding companies through liquidity events and public company disclosures, and supporting mergers and acquisitions.
Before joining the firm, Austin advised clients at a prominent boutique estate planning and tax firm, as well as an international law firm with a strong presence in Texas. He is also a member of the Purposeful Planning Institute, which fosters collaboration among advisors and consultants serving high-net-worth families and family businesses.
Austin obtained his law degree with honors from the University of Texas School of Law, where he served as an associate editor for the Texas Law Review and received the Dean's Achievement Award in Private Equity Investing and the Law. He earned his bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in Business Administration from Austin College.
When not practicing law, Austin enjoys fitness competitions, doting on his Coton de Tulear dog, Pinto, and following University of Texas Longhorns games.
